SCORM 1.2 and 2004
Face Up with LearnUpon: SCORM 1.2 or 2004
LearnUpon takes Face Up simulations as SCORM modules, added from a course’s Content tab. It tracks completion and score; the detailed debrief stays in Face Up.
In short
Yes, Face Up works with LearnUpon, through SCORM 1.2 or 2004. You download a simulation’s SCORM module from Face Up, then add it in a course’s Content tab with Add SCORM or Tin Can: LearnUpon records each learner’s completion and score. LearnUpon does not offer LTI, so SCORM is the method to use.
How it works
What the trainer or administrator does
In LearnUpon, a course is made of modules. Each Face Up simulation becomes a SCORM module, added from the course’s Content tab. To upload several simulations at once and reuse them across courses, go through the Library (Library › SCORMs and Tin Cans).
What the learner sees
They open the module in their course, and the simulation starts in LearnUpon’s SCORM player. They practise the conversation, get their debrief at the end and can try again. The browser asks for microphone access the first time.
Why SCORM rather than LTI
LearnUpon states that it supports the SCORM and xAPI standards only, and its list of module types has no LTI tool. The SCORM module is therefore the documented way to launch Face Up from a course and track the score.
Setup, step by step
- Get the module. Download the simulation’s SCORM module from Face Up (a .zip file). Keep it: LearnUpon does not let you download a package again after upload.
- Open the course. In Courses, open the course and go to the Content tab.
- Add the SCORM module. Click Add SCORM or Tin Can, then Upload File, select the .zip and click Save.
- Set completion and score. For ‘Complete module when?’, LearnUpon recommends the default option, ‘LMSFinish is received’. Set a mastery score if needed, along with the attempt and score overwrite rules.
- Test with a learner account. Play the simulation to the end and check completion, score and microphone access.
What comes back into your LMS
LearnUpon records each learner’s results on the Face Up SCORM module; the session detail stays in Face Up.
- Completion: the module is marked complete according to the rule chosen in ‘Complete module when?’.
- Score: the simulation’s score is recorded and compared with the mastery score, if you set one.
- Attempts: when a learner plays again, LearnUpon applies your attempt and score overwrite rules.
- In Face Up: the detailed debrief (objectives met or not, strengths, points to improve) stays in Face Up.
Good to know
- One .zip makes one module, up to 2.5 GB: plan one module per simulation.
- A SCORM module fixes the scenario version, and LearnUpon does not let you download the package again: if the scenario changes, download the new module from Face Up and upload it again.
- Microphone: LearnUpon does not state whether its SCORM player allows microphone access. Test it during the pilot; the browser asks for permission the first time. The ‘Open SCORM in new window for Internet Explorer and Edge users’ option only applies to those two browsers.
- An embed code pasted into a Text & Image module displays a page but records nothing: use a SCORM module to track completion and score.
- Start with one pilot course, one scenario and one group. Check the launch, completion and score in LearnUpon, and the microphone, then scale up.

Frequently asked questions
Is Face Up compatible with LearnUpon?
Yes. Face Up works with LearnUpon through SCORM 1.2 or 2004: each simulation is added as a SCORM module in a course, and LearnUpon tracks each learner’s completion and score.
LTI or SCORM with LearnUpon?
SCORM. LearnUpon supports SCORM and xAPI, but not LTI. It accepts SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 (3rd and 4th editions). To see how the two standards differ, read SCORM, LTI or xAPI for conversational training.
Does the Face Up score come back into LearnUpon?
Yes. LearnUpon records each learner’s completion and score on the SCORM module, and compares the score with the mastery score if you set one. The detailed debrief stays in Face Up.
How long does setup take, and who does it?
Allow 48 hours after the scoping call: the Face Up team delivers SCORM modules ready to import. The trainer or administrator then adds them in the courses’ Content tab. To get started, book a demo.
Is the integration included in my Face Up plan?
Yes. SCORM and LTI are included in every Face Up plan. SSO, CRM and HRIS connections and the API are part of the Enterprise plan. Data is hosted in Paris, in line with GDPR.
