Authoring tool
Definition
An authoring tool is software that lets a trainer or instructional designer create training content themselves, without writing code. For AI simulations, it is the tool that builds the personas, scenarios and debriefs.
Also called
content authoring software, e-learning authoring tool
Where the term comes from
In e-learning, authoring tools produce interactive modules exported as SCORM packages to an LMS. The principle is the same for simulations: make trainers autonomous.
Why it matters
Without an authoring tool, every new scenario goes through the software vendor, which takes weeks. With one, trainers adapt their simulations to their cases, audiences and current events whenever they need to.
With Face Up
SAM, Face Up’s authoring tool, is an AI assistant: the trainer describes the situation and SAM creates persona, scene, scenario, debrief and cheat sheet in minutes, in more than 60 languages.
