LTI 1.3

Definition

LTI 1.3 (Learning Tools Interoperability) is a 1EdTech standard that securely connects an LMS to an external tool: the learner launches the tool from their course without logging in again, and the result flows back to the LMS. It is the current version of the standard.

Also called

Learning Tools Interoperability, LTI Advantage

What it changes

No file to export: the LMS calls the tool directly. Content updates are immediate and grades can flow automatically into the gradebook.

Where you find it

Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard and many corporate LMSs support LTI 1.3.

With Face Up

Face Up works as an LTI 1.3 external tool: the simulation launches from the course and the result lands in the gradebook. The Moodle demo page shows how it works.
