Assessment rubric

Definition

An assessment rubric lists the criteria used to judge a performance, with what is expected for each. In a simulation, it turns an impression (“that went well”) into precise feedback that can be compared from one session to the next.

How to build one

Start from the scenario goal, then break it down into three to six observable criteria: “paraphrases the need before arguing”, “proposes a dated next step”, “stays calm in the face of aggression”. Each criterion must be visible in the exchange.

Why it matters

The rubric makes the debrief consistent across learners and sessions, and lets you track a cohort’s progress over time.

With Face Up

The Face Up debrief follows the trainer’s rubric: your criteria, your method, not an imposed model. SAM suggests criteria from the scenario, which the trainer adjusts.
