SCORM 1.2 and 2004

Face Up with Workday Learning: SCORM 1.2 or 2004

In Workday Learning, a SCORM module is added to a course as a Packaged Content lesson. It is the method Workday documents and the one Face Up recommends: completion and score are recorded in the course.

In short

Yes, Face Up works with Workday Learning, through SCORM. You download a simulation's SCORM 1.2 or 2004 module from Face Up, your Workday team adds it to a course as a Packaged Content lesson, and Workday records each learner's completion status and score. SCORM is the recommended method because Workday Learning's public documentation does not describe an LTI configuration.

How it works

What your Workday team does

Workday Learning runs inside Workday HCM: everything is set up in your tenant, with your Workday security domains. So it is your Workday admin team that enables Packaged Content for the tenant, imports the Face Up modules and creates the courses.

What the training manager does

The training manager chooses which simulations to offer and the course that hosts them. In Workday, a course is made of lessons: each Face Up simulation becomes a Media lesson of the Packaged Content type, alongside the course's other lessons. A SCORM module cannot be published on its own; it always sits in a lesson within a course.

What the learner sees

Learners open the course in Workday, launch the lesson and talk to a counterpart who reacts to what they say. The browser asks for microphone access the first time. At the end, they read their debrief and Workday records the lesson result. Face Up works in more than 60 languages.

Why not a simple link

An External Content lesson with a URL and no tracking enabled is marked Complete as soon as the learner clicks, with no score. Packaged Content, by contrast, receives completion and score from the module. Cloud Connect for Learning, a paid add-on (SKU CCLRN) built for catalogue content providers, is not needed either.

Setup, step by step

  1. Download the SCORM module In Face Up, download the simulation's module (.zip) in SCORM 1.2 or 2004: Workday accepts SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 (2nd to 4th Edition).
  2. Check the tenant Packaged Content must be enabled for your tenant; its options, such as interaction reporting or larger uploads, are set with the Edit Tenant Setup - HCM task.
  3. Upload the file Workday recommends the Create Media Import Job task to upload files first, before attaching them to a lesson.
  4. Create the lesson With Create Course, or Edit Course for an existing course, add a Media lesson and select the imported Packaged Content.
  5. Set the course grade State whether this lesson provides the course's primary score and grade, for instance when the simulation is the final assessment.
  6. Test with a learner account Enrol a test account in the course and check the launch, microphone access, the debrief, and that completion status and score are recorded.

What comes back into your LMS

With Packaged Content, Workday Learning records what Face Up's SCORM module sends for each learner.

  • The completion status of the Face Up lesson.
  • The score: the Packaged Content lesson can provide the course's primary score and grade.
  • Manual correction if needed: an administrator can enter a grade or score with the Manage Enrollment Completion task.
  • The debrief (objectives met or not, strengths, points to improve) stays in Face Up.

Good to know

  • Involve your Workday team early: importing modules and creating courses happen in your tenant and its security domains. Face Up delivers ready-to-import modules; your Workday team's availability sets the timeline.
  • Test the microphone: Workday does not document how the Packaged Content player displays the module. The browser asks for microphone access the first time, so check it on your learners' devices.
  • LTI: Workday Learning's public documentation does not describe an LTI configuration. If your Workday team has other information for your tenant, raise it during the scoping call; SCORM works right away.
  • Labels: Workday now presents the product as ‘Workday Learning, Powered by Sana’, with a Sana Content lesson type. Menus may change, so go by the labels in your tenant.
  • Start small: one pilot course, one simulation, one group. Check the launch, completion status and score, and the microphone, then extend.

Frequently asked questions

Is Face Up compatible with Workday Learning?

Yes. Workday Learning accepts SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 modules as Packaged Content, with completion status and score. Face Up simulations are added through SCORM, as lessons in a course.

LTI or SCORM with Workday Learning?

SCORM. It is the method Workday documents for importing a tracked module (Packaged Content), while its public documentation does not describe an LTI configuration. Each simulation is a .zip module; when a scenario changes, you import the new version. Our SCORM, LTI and xAPI comparison explains the differences.

Does the score come back into Workday?

Yes. Workday records the completion status and score sent by the module, and the lesson can provide the course's primary score and grade. The detailed debrief stays in Face Up.

Who does the setup, and how long does it take?

Face Up delivers ready-to-import SCORM modules 48 hours after the scoping call. Your Workday team imports them into the tenant and creates the courses; then plan a test on a pilot course. To scope your project, book a demo.

Is it included in my Face Up plan?

Yes: SCORM integration is included in all Face Up plans. SSO and CRM, HRIS and API connections are part of the Enterprise plan. Data is hosted in Paris, in line with GDPR.
