DISC model
Definition
The DISC model describes four behavioural styles: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness. Based on the work of psychologist William Moulton Marston (1928), it is widely used in training to adapt communication to the other person.
Also called
DISC, DISC profiles
The four styles
Dominance: direct, results-driven. Influence: enthusiastic, people-oriented. Steadiness: calm, values security and loyalty. Conscientiousness: precise, attentive to rules and detail.
Why it helps in simulations
Giving a persona a DISC style makes its reactions consistent and lets learners work on a specific skill: reassuring an S profile, getting straight to the point with a D profile.
With Face Up
Trainers can describe their persona’s style, including in DISC terms; SAM takes it into account in how the persona speaks and reacts.
